A Unique Moment in Time: Leveraging American Rescue Plan Funding for Juvenile Justice Reform

Past Event
May 7, 2021, 1:00pm - 2:00pm, Eastern

Hosted by the Council of Juvenile Justice Administrators and The Council of State Governments (CSG) Justice Center.

In March, Congress passed the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, which provides $1.9 trillion to states to support their economic and health recovery from the effects of COVID-19. While the law does not explicitly allocate funding for justice reform, states have broad discretion over how to allocate millions, if not billions, of dollars that could be used to improve outcomes for youth who come into contact with the juvenile justice system.

This webinar will provide participants with an overview of the Act and its provisions, including highlighting funding streams that could be used for juvenile justice reform and related purposes. In addition, participants will learn about concrete opportunities and innovations for improving juvenile justice systems that could be advanced through Recovery funding, including the efforts of select states that have moved in these directions.

  • Marshall Clement, Deputy Director, Policy and Strategic Planning, The CSG Justice Center
  • Josh Weber, Juvenile Justice Program Director, The CSG Justice Center
  • Lisa Bjergaard, Director, North Dakota Division of Juvenile Services
  • Adam Zarrin, Policy Advisor, Colorado Office of the Governor
